It’s not documented when the tower got wired. Perhaps it happened as it was originally built, or it was added later. Anyway, the facade features a gorgeous, period perfect (and most likely original) “station lamp”. During a recent trip to the tower I managed to dismount it from the wall and bring it home. It’s cast iron and metal, features a porcelain lamp base, textile wiring and it’s… extremely rusty.
The plan is to restore it as close to its original look as possible, perhaps shorten the neck a tad and then put it back again, but mount it over the entrance door pair instead of on the south east corner, where it originally sat. Stay tuned… this will be a fun side project!
