Since this tower used to serve the steam locomotives with water, an enormous, riveted steel water tank rested on the massive steal beams at the top “floor” of the tower. Unfortunately, it wasn’t made of copper… bummer 🙂
Anyway, me and my friend Demian headed down to the tower a nice, warm day in September to cut it down. I had played with a variety of scenarios – taking the roof of and lifting the tank out etc. but after checking with a couple of train memorabilia/railway museums and realizing nobody was interested in preserving the tank, cutting it down proved to be the cheapest and most efficient way.
Armed with actelyene/hydro tanks and a truckload of ambition, we got to work. It took 10 hours, but the tank is now gone. Big up to Demian for amazing work, and to neighbor Benny for lending us water.
